Sunday Sermon - 31 May

Trinity Sunday is a celebration not simply of a doctrine, but of relationship. Christians confess that God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit: one God in a communion of love, eternally giving, receiving, and sharing life. The Trinity reminds us that faith is never meant to be lived in isolation. We grow in community, through learning, prayer, conversation, and discipleship together.

Now, I know this is a bit of a stretch but before we head into the summer, I’d like to remind and invite everyone about something and I’m using today, Trinity Sunday, to do it.  We have a pretty amazing resource at our fingertips, RightNow Media.

RightNow Media is an online resource that predates my arrival to the parish. I’ve been fiddling around with it since I’ve been here. I watched a few videos about being a new parish priest and a couple of devotionals from some Christian football legends that I admire and respect. I know some folks have been deeply using it for personal devotional and group study purposes for years.

RightNow Media provides opportunities for people of all ages and stages of faith to deepen their understanding of Scripture, theology, and Christian living. Whether through Bible studies, children’s programs, marriage resources, or discipleship series, it becomes a tool that helps connect believers more deeply to the life of God and to one another.

On Trinity Sunday especially, we are reminded that the Church has always learned the mystery of God in community. The early Church wrestled together with the meaning of Father, Son, and Spirit. They prayed together, studied together, questioned together, and ultimately came to confess the Trinity not as an abstract idea, but as the living reality of God revealed in Jesus Christ and experienced through the Holy Spirit.

In the same way, faithful study and reflection today are communal acts. Resources like RightNow Media can help families gather around Scripture, small groups engage in meaningful discussion, and individuals continue growing in faith throughout the week. They become one modern expression of the Church’s ongoing calling to “make disciples,” helping believers live more fully into the life of the Triune God.

On Trinity Sunday we celebrate the mystery of God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — a God who exists eternally in relationship and invites us into that divine life. As a parish, one way we continue growing together in faith and discipleship is through resources like RightNow Media, which offers opportunities for learning, prayer, and spiritual formation for all. Just as the early Church gathered to deepen its understanding of God’s presence among them, so too we are invited to continue learning and growing together in Christ. I encourage you to take a look at it, use it in any way you wish to deepen your understanding of your faith in relationship with God. Even if you choose to not use this resource I still encourage you to continue to learn, seeking a deeper understanding of your faith and your relationship with our creator, redeemer, and sanctifier - Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Let us pray:

Holy and Triune God,

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,

draw us ever deeper into your life and love.

Open our hearts and minds to learn more of you,

to grow in faith, and to follow Christ more faithfully each day.

Guide us by your Spirit into wisdom, truth, and compassion,

that our lives may reflect your grace in the world;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.
